How to Cook Wild Rice
Cooking wild rice is pretty straightforward, but it does take a bit more time than regular rice because of its tough outer shell. Here’s my favorite way to make it! π
What You’ll Need:
✅ 1 cup wild rice πΎ
✅ 3 to 4 cups water or broth (I like using vegetable or chicken broth for extra flavor) π₯£
✅ ½ teaspoon salt (optional, but recommended) π§
✅ 1 tablespoon butter or olive oil (totally up to you) π§π«
How to Make It:
1️⃣ Rinse it well – Wild rice can have some debris, so give it a good rinse under cold water using a fine-mesh strainer. πΏ
2️⃣ Bring the liquid to a boil – In a medium pot, heat up 3 to 4 cups of water or broth until it’s boiling. π₯
3️⃣ Add the rice – Stir in the wild rice, lower the heat to a gentle simmer, and cover the pot. π²
4️⃣ Let it cook – Be patient! ⏳ It takes about 40 to 50 minutes for the grains to pop open and become tender. If there’s any extra water left, just drain it.
5️⃣ Fluff it up & enjoy – Use a fork to fluff the rice, and if you’re feeling fancy, stir in some butter, olive oil, or your favorite seasonings. π΄π
Wild rice has a deliciously nutty flavor and works great in salads, soups, or as a side dish with roasted veggies or grilled meats. Give it a try—you’ll love it! ❤️π₯
