Schmoo Torte 🍰



Schmoo Torte is a famous Canadian dessert that originated in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This delicious torte features layers of soft sponge cake, covered with caramel sauce and whipped cream, and is often topped with toasted nuts like walnuts or almonds.


Ingredients: 🛒


For the Sponge Cake:


6 eggs 🥚


1 cup sugar 🧂


1 teaspoon vanilla extract 🍦


1 cup sifted flour 🌾


1 teaspoon baking powder



For the Caramel Sauce:


1 cup brown sugar 🍯


½ cup butter 🧈


½ cup heavy cream 🥛



For the Topping:


2 cups heavy whipping cream 🥛


¼ cup powdered sugar 🍚


1 teaspoon vanilla


Toasted nuts (walnuts or almonds) 🥜



Instructions: 👩‍🍳


1️⃣ Making the Cake:


1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).



2. Beat the eggs with sugar and vanilla until light and fluffy.



3. Gradually add the flour and baking powder, folding gently.



4. Pour the batter into a greased baking pan and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.



5. Once cooled, slice the cake into two or three layers.




2️⃣ Preparing the Caramel Sauce:


1. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the brown sugar with butter until smooth.



2. Add the heavy cream and stir continuously until fully combined.




3️⃣ Making the Whipped Cream:


1. Whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla until soft peaks form.




4️⃣ Assembling the Torte:


1. Place a layer of cake, then spread a bit of caramel sauce and whipped cream on top.



2. Repeat the process with the remaining layers.



3. Cover the entire torte with whipped cream and garnish with toasted nuts and extra caramel drizzle.




Serving: 🍽️
