Tourtière Recipe

Tourtière is a traditional French-Canadian meat pie with a flaky crust and a savory spiced filling, often enjoyed during the holidays.




 Ingredients:


1 lb (450g) ground pork (or a mix of pork and beef)


1 small onion, finely chopped


1 clove garlic, minced


1/2 teaspoon salt


1/4 teaspoon black pepper


1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon


1/4 teaspoon ground cloves


1/2 cup (120ml) beef or chicken broth


1/2 cup (75g) mashed potatoes


1 double pie crust (homemade or store-bought)


1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)



Instructions:


1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).



2. Cook the filling: In a pan over medium heat, cook the ground meat, onion, and garlic until browned. Add salt, pepper, cinnamon, and cloves. Stir in the broth and let it simmer for 10 minutes. Mix in the mashed potatoes and let the filling cool slightly.



3. Assemble the pie: Roll out one pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish. Fill it with the meat mixture, then cover with the second crust. Seal the edges and cut small slits on top.



4. Brush with egg wash for a golden finish.



5. Bake for 35–40 minutes until golden brown.



6. Cool slightly before serving.
